The Vintage

Last weekend, I visited Seattle, Washington's Pike Market. I discovered a small store called "Old Seattle Paperoworks". This unique contains all the antique prints..Old newspaper, vintage magazines, propaganda, ad-clippings, movie posters, etc.
This is a picture of the store from the outside.

As I was flipping through the movie poster, I came across a box full of old art works and photographs of leading females of the vintage times. For instance, Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's and Marilyn Monroe in her photo-shoots. The pictures are all so beautiful with a spice of retro-glamour.

This vintage style as seen in the movie posters are known as the Pin-Up Style. Pin ups were pohtographs of celebrities as a form of artwork, often depicting idealized version of women. So you're probably wondering, what does a a pin-up girl look like? Pin-up girls are very sexy, but still had an air of playful innocence: cat eye liner and full red lips. Marilyn Monroe is the icon for

the glamorous pin-up, where as Bettie Page was vampy. In the modern pop culture, the most well known pin-up looks can be seen on Katy Perry in her hit "I Kissed a Girl".

Here's How to Get the Look!Face:

  1. Apply your base as you normally would - foundation and concealer only where you need it and powder to help set it. You'll actually want to use a bit more powder than you normally do, as the classic pin-up face tends to look quite matte.
  2. With a large brush, sweep a natural-hued powder blush (for the classic pin-up face use a rosy-coloured one) onto the apples of the cheeks and sweeping up towards the temples. If your blush is one with shimmer, even better!
  3. Comb your brows up with an eyebrow comb and fill in any sparse bits with a bit of eyebrow powder or pencil. You'll want strong, dramatic eyebrows for this look. Finish by sweeping on some eyebrow gel to set them.

My favourite hues are Bare Naked Lady by Channel and Juicy Melon by M.A.C. Though these colours are quite different, they really symbolize the fresh and simple feel that spring gives. Bare Naked Lady can be used as a base coat for more application of sparkle colours on top, or for an application of a french coat. This colour is sophisticated, appropriate for the office and for a night out. Juicy Melon, on the other hand, is a girly tone that is a bit wild around the edges. I suggest wearing this colour alone, because the vibrant colour dominates and you would not want any other colours to take its spot light. A plane white top or lace dress would match this colour perfectly.

Stay Chic,

Foyers- First Impression

The entrance to a home and foyer sets the mood of the house. It sets the mood, tone and reveals what is in store for the visitor. Tidy, welcoming, modern, classic- any adjectives can be set in stone in someone's mind before entering your house.

So I have conducted a list of unique foyers from Elle Decor.Items that seem to be in just about every foyer for practical reasons are a mirror, unique and distinctive lighting, a console table of varying size and a place to sit down and remove one’s shoes.

Welcome to each of these homes.

The exquisite lighting and use of sky light makes this foyer simple yet elegant.

A bold colour immediately screams attention, along with delicate accessories. This sets the mood in a splendid way.

This simple, classic and clean foyer allows the beauty of the house speak for itself. Notice how the flowers, such little details, contribute to the harmony of this picture.

The use of wall paper, especially in zebra prints, screams "FAB".

The lavender tone and the natural lights makes this feel like the perfect getaway. It makes visitors anticipate to explore the rest of the house.

Indulge Yourself Every Now and Then

We are always so caught up in our hectic lives. Even while we are being financially successful, getting our daily exercises in and eating healthy, we sometimes forget to treat that one special person who made it all happen. Yes, you! Indulging yourself can come in so many different ways, and it is a way to reward and thank yourself for being the best it can be.

My favourite indulgent is going to the spa and getting a relaxing facial. But we can't always afford expensive facials; a great spin is a a nice soothing homemade mask after a long day of work. Two new masks that I have recently discovered involve the use of yogurt. Yogurt is natural, unlike a lot of chemical ingredients you find in drugstores nowadays. Perfect for all types of skins.. indulge yourself!

Mask #1 - Honey Yogurt
You need:
  • 1 tbsp natural yogurt, room temperature (not lowfat or non-fat)
  • 1 tsp runny honey (microwave for a few minutes to soften hardened honey)
How to :

Combine mixture, then apply to face.
Let sit for 15 minutes.
Wash face with steaming washcloth.
For dry skin, use an extra tsp of honey.
Oily skin? Add a few drops of fresh lime juice.

Mask #2 - Strawberries
Strawberries are natural sources of salicylic acid which is what most acne cleanser contains to fight acne and bacteria on your skin.

You need:
  • 1/4 cup strawberries (fresh, not frozen please)
  • 1/4 cup sour cream or non-flavored yogurt
How to:
Mash together the strawberries and yogurt or sour cream.
Spread on face and wash after 10-15 minutes.

Muah, the kisses

Lustrous, big bang and explosive lips. Who doesn't want lips that just screams attention! Allow me to present you the new Superglass line collection by M.A.C. The product is just as it says: super, glossy, like glass. The gloss is blended with pearls, radiating the most gorgeous dazzle. It has a tint of vanilla flavour, perfect for my taste.

Superglass is debuting on May 6th, and it is limited edition. In some reviews, the gloss is said to be thick and sticky, which means it can last all day long. With the abundance glitter, it doesn't feel grainy either.
